Newport Local Training Initiative
Business & Employment Through Tourism Programme

Newport Local Training Initiative (LTI) in association with South West Mayo Development Company, and funded through Mayo Sligo Leitrim Educational Training Board, is planning to roll out a new training programme commencing on April 20th 2015. The programme is titled Business & Employment Through Tourism and is aimed at people who are hoping to find employment, or perhaps wishing to set up their own business, in the Tourism sector. The Tourism sector is the largest indigenous industry in Ireland and is continuing to grow year-on-year. Currently Tourism employs approximately 200,000 people and the government is planning to grow this to over 250,000 in the coming years.

Newport LTI is located in a Tourism Hotspot with The Great Western Greenway on its doorstep and the natural tourist attractions of Croagh Patrick, Achill Island and the ever popular Westport close by as well as the recently launched Wild Atlantic Way. The South & West Mayo region has seen a steady increase in tourism figures in the last few years and new opportunities are constantly presenting themselves. Newport LTI is a community based training programme that is aimed at providing training to those most in need in a local setting where learners are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential. Newport LTI serves the people of Castlebar, Westport, Newport, Mulranny and surrounding areas and has been providing much needed training to these areas over the last 15 years. The programme will consist of eight modules:
