1. Clare Joins the Team

At the club we are very lucky to have a core team of dedicated volunteer adults who supervise, coach, organize competitions, prepare teams etc. but we are always pleased to welcome a new member to lighten the load so we were all thrilled that Clare Granaghan decided to help out on Friday nights. As a primary teacher and badminton player with great experience she has much to offer the club. Clare's four children, Darragh, Aoife, Aisling and Sarah are all members of the club with Darragh already blossoming as a major up and coming star - it's in the genes! Not only is their mam an accomplished player, but their dad was no pushover at the game. Indeed, Seamus was very successful at nearly every racquet sport.

Clare reluctantly stood long enough for a photo at a recent clubnight.

2. Adult Club Starts on Monday Night

The adult club is now in full swing after an absence of quite a number of years. The hours of "business" are 9.30 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. on Monday nights and all are welcome from Transition Year upwards. So, if you are looking for something to do for the winter and would like to get some exercise into the bargain, now you have no excuse. This is the ideal time as many will be starting together and there shouldn't be any embarassment at not being too sure of the rules of the game or not having played before. There will even be some racquets available on the nights for those that are not too sure whether they would like the game or not - so go on, give it a go! Shuttles are also provided and the nightly cost is very reasonable at around £2-£3.

We hope, in the coming months to include some photos, competition details and other news items from the senior club in this website. Hence the dropping of the JUNIOR from the club website title. Check back regularly to find out the latest developments.

3. Junior Club Divided to Accomodate Numbers

The Junior Club continues to be very successful with large numbers attending on Friday nights so in order to give the members the attention they deserve the decision was taken to split the club in two. Those that are in fifth class or below now are being catered for between 7-8.15 p.m. and those that are in sixth class or secondary school are catered for from 8.15 -9.30 p.m. There are still some places left if you are interested in playing the game for the first time. It's a great sport and if you have young children now is the time to start them - they will have a game for life and a great social outlet - especially if they move to a new town or country.
