Castlebar Concert Band and Mayo Concert Orchestra has a selection of
new numbers which include William Tell Overture by Rossini, Elizabethan
Serenade by Ronald Binge which is a very popular piece, Vaughan Williams
Fantasia on Greensleeves, Morning, from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite,
Beethoven's Hymn to Joy, Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco by
Verdi, Mozart's Symphony No. 40.
California Dreamin' which was made popular by the Mama's and the
Papas, Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade, Londonderry Air, Mister
Sandman, Sweet Georgia Brown a very lively jazz number, and a few old
numbers dug out of the archives.
Last year the orchestra and band had a great trip to Holland, the
highlight of the trip was to The Hague to hear the European Competition
for Youth Orchestras. The night was ended by a performance of Dvorak's
New World Symphony.
The band has been very busy lately for example: playing a double bill
on the Sunday of the Mayo Roscommon Connaught semi-final playing at
McHale Park before the match and at half time and then on to Ashford
Castle to play an evening concert for a group of Canadian visitors.
Practice every Wednesday night in St. Patrick's N.S., Chapel St.
Castlebar.
All members are requested to attend
