The title of his illustrated lecture is 'Was CuChulainn Really a Comet?'
In his talk, Professor Baillie will discuss the catastrophic impact of comets on the earth's atmosphere and the resultant downturn in the human and animal population. Famine and plagues raged, and although history does not tell us what happened, mythology does.
This very interesting lecture is open to the public and all are welcome.
March LectureDr. Peter Coxon, a lecturer in the Geography Dept., Trinity College Dublin, was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Mayo Historical & Archaeological Society held in the Failte Suite, Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Tuesday, March 14th at 8 p.m.
The title of his illustrated lecture was "Two-Million Years of Mayo’s Climate and Landscape".
Dr. Coxon has spent several years carrying out research work in Co. Mayo on glacial deposits and pollen analysis and his findings in these areas formed the basis of his lecture. He has worked extensively on Clare Island and his work in the Castlebar area at Derrynadiva Bog has revealed many exciting finds.
