March Lecture 2001

Mr Stephen Dunford,author and musician will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Mayo Historical & Archaeological Society to be held in the Failte Suite, Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, on Friday, March 2nd at 8 p.m. (Sharp). The theme of the talk is "The Irish Highwaymen - In Song and Story".

Castlebar born Stephen, was a member of the renowned folk-group 'General Humbert'that launched Mary Black on her way to international stardom.His recently published book "The Irish Highwaymen" (Merlin Press)was inspired by stories told to him by his grandmother of the exploits of their notorious ancestor, Tipperary-born William Crotty, The Comeragh Highwayman.

Stephen will be joined on the night by Dave Munnelly who has played with groups such as, The Chieftains, and Niamh Parsons. He has recently been commissioned to write the music for a TG4 documentary on the life and times of Micháel Mac Ruaídhrí a gealic writer and poet from Foghill, near Kilcummin. Dave's debut album is due out shortly and it will feature guests such as Sharon Shannon, Richie Buckley and Karen Casey.
A good night of music, song and story is assured and as usual, all are welcome.
