The curtain comes down on the Castlebar Juvenile Basketball season next Saturday with the Championship Finals, the Annual Presentation and awards ceremony to be held in Celtic Club house on Sunday May 26th at 7.30pm.

The leagues were established to encourage participation from all levels of players and also to develop refereeing and coaching skills.All are welcome to participate the only stipulation for Castlebar players is that they play with their area club. A total of 42 teams competed in the various age groups from 13 different clubs.With a special tournament held for the under 10 age group last Friday.

Division 2 leagues were played in two age groups with over 180 games played.

The leagues have been in progress since late September almost every Saturday, a huge commitment given by coaches, referee's, organiser's, players and parent's alike.

The Championship Finals will commence Saturday 25th May at 11am with the U12 girls.

Finalist's are:

U12 girls Ballycastle v Towncentre Ballycastle after an unbeaten run in the league are hot favourites to do the double .

U12 boys Towncentre v Keelogues Avery close game in the league saw Towncentre just edge which they will be hoping to do again but they will have to keep David Gordon under close surveillance.

U14 girls Towncentre v Comets Towncentre although unbeaten in the league the games in Division 1 were all keenly contested. Comets will be looking to Helen Brennan and Bernie Gavaghan to turn the tables.

U16 boys Towncentre v Ballisodare Ballisodare an unknown quantity as they entered late have Gregory Duggan from Sligo an U16 international on their books a team hoping to prevent Johnny Kelly and company from winning the double.

U16 girls Ballintubber v Tigers /Charlestown Pumas shock exit at the hands of Ballintubber give the Div.2 team a Cup final spot against either T.C.Tigers or Charlestown.

Players of the year and All Stars will be announced at the presentation ceremony on Sunday 26th in Celtic Club House.
