Reaction to press release on U2 concert Early last week the executive committee decided to release the following press release: McHale Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo available for U2 Concert In response to the unprecedented and overwhelming demand for an additional U2 concert, Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club are offering their extensive facilities at McHale Park as a viable location for the staging of this concert. The club already holds full planning permission from the local authority to hold six outdoor concerts on their grounds. Our facilities include an all seater stadium for up to 36,000 patrons with the capability of extending this capacity to almost 60,000 when on pitch standing accommodation is included. The venue is located in the heart of one of the most progressive towns in Ireland. The town is easily accessible by road, by rail and by air to Knock International Airport. Castlebar has a proven record of successfully hosting events of this magnitude. We have offered our facility to the promoters MCD earlier today and we await their response. Since then we have received a very favourable reaction from the people of the town and beyond. As of now we have not received a definite refusal from the promoters and we are awaiting further developments. Back to topPresentation to Australian bound players Last Thursday night many club members turned up in the Welcome Inn Hotel to give their best wishes to our two Australian bound underage players, David Gordon and Rory O’Grady.
