Reaction to press release on U2 concert

Early last week the executive committee decided to release the following press release:

Since then we have received a very favourable reaction from the people of the town and beyond. As of now we have not received a definite refusal from the promoters and we are awaiting further developments.

Last Thursday night many club members turned up in the Welcome Inn Hotel to give their best wishes to our two Australian bound underage players, David Gordon and Rory O’Grady. It is a very proud moment for the two players and their parents. They have created their own bit of club history by being the first underage players to be selected to tour Australia with their province and their country. David is a member of the Irish Under 17 panel who will be visiting Perth and Melbourne. Rory is a member of the Connacht schools team who will be touring in Sydney and Brisbane.

The first round of the senior leagues has been brought forward to next Sunday due to the rearranged dates for the National Football League after the foot and mouth scare..

Our senior team is due to play Knockmore away while our junior team is at home to Ballinrobe2.

Our minor team had a challenge match against the Mayo Vocational school team over the weekend and are due to play Clonbur in a challenge match next weekend.

The first round of the minor league against Moy Davitts is due to be rescheduled for Sunday 1^st April but has yet to be confirmed.

Senior football and hurling: Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 p.m.

Junior football: Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 p.m.

Minor team: Tuesday 7.30 p.m. and Sunday morning 10.30 a.m.

A reminder to everybody that club membership is now due and is only £10 for both adult and juvenile players and for non-playing members. Membership forms for senior players / adult members are available from John Brennan @ 22966 or James Rocke @ 25019. Membership will be closing soon!

The club is currently embarking on a major fundraising drive and is offering an attractive sponsorship package to businesses. If there is anyone interested in availing of the benefits of this sponsorship package, you can obtain further details from either Michael Diskin at 24887 or Monica Joyce at 22378.

County Board tickets are on sale to club members at a cost of £60. All sections of the club have been issued with tickets. We are appealing to all adult players, club members and parents of underage players to buy a ticket. Monies raised will go to the further development of football and hurling within the club. Please return any sold tickets as soon as possible. Have you bought a ticket yet?

Members of the senior hurling team will be training with the senior footballers on Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30 p.m.

Training for the under 14 hurling continues next Saturday at 1 p.m. at the all weather pitch in Celtic.

Bord na Nog will be holding a registration day for all underage players in An Sportlann on Saturday 24^th March next from 11 – 2 p.m.

We are asking all parents to come along and pay membership during this time. It is important that all players are registered and covered by proper insurance before any matches begin. Members of Bord na Nog will be available during this time to talk to parents and to explain the details of the additional voluntary insurance available to all players. Just a little reminder to say that the annual flag day for Bord na Nog will be taking place around the town on Saturday April 14^th.

Bord na Nog meeting

A meeting of Bord an Nog will take place on Thursday night next in the Traveller's Friend Hotel at 8.30 p.m. All members are asked to attend and bring along any sold county board tickets.

Wally Flynn want to remind all players that training for the under 12 team continues next Saturday in An Sportlann at 10 a.m. This will be the last Saturday indoors before training moves outdoors. So all players are asked to bring runners and £1 for the hall.

Manager Brendan O’Dowd informs me that training for the under 10 team continues next Saturday in De La Salle Hall, Newport Road at 10 a.m. Training will be indoors.
