AROUND MAYO IN EIGHTY DAYS
Eighty Days, over 2,700 land miles, and visits to three islands off the Mayo coast that. s the latest project being undertaken by Mayo Citizens Information Service. The service will use a mobile information unit to service the towns and villages around the county over an eleven-week period starting on 25th May in Castlebar and finishing on 9th August on Inishturk.
A mobile unit equipped with computers and telephones and staffed by personnel from the Citizen Information Centres around the county will provide Information and Advice on a wide range of services and entitlements including:
Employment Rights, Consumer Affairs, Disability Information, Social Welfare, Taxation, Family Issues, Housing and Health services.
The service is already provided through offices in Castlebar, Ballina, Claremorris and Belmullet.
According to the Development Manager of the service Tomás Lally the project is being undertaken to make the service accessible to all citizens and visitors to the county and to assess the information needs of rural areas and small towns. The data gathered on information needs over the eleven-week period will be used to draft a strategic plan for Mayo Citizens Information Service over the next three years.
