School Re-opens on Tuesday 3 rd May 2011
The buses will pick up the children at 12.30p.m. If your child(ren) do not come to school by bus please make your own private arrangements to collect your child(ren) at this time,

School Band:
The school band acquitted themselves excellently at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Participating in the parade was the culmination of months of hard work and practice. They looked very colourful and marched and played very well. The school has received many messages of congratulations. We would like to thank everyone who helped to make the band such a great success. A special word of thanks to the school band co-ordinator; Mrs Ruttledge assisted by Ms Catherine McHale, Ms. Dirika Schonkeren Ms. Paula Ring & Ms Leanne Moran. Many thanks also to Mrs Angela Gavin for arranging the uniforms along with Mrs Helen Monaghan, Mrs. Breda Lawless & Ms. Edel Moran. Congratulations on a job well done. We would also like to thank the members of the Parents association who helped out on the day. Sincere thanks to all those who sent in photographs of the Band.

Céilí Community:
Many thanks to Mr. Paul Rock and his team (Céilí Community) who visited the school and spoke to the pupils of all classes on Tuesday April 3rd. Fifth class will be attending a class retreat on Thursday April 14 th in, Lough Lannagh. This is in conjunction with the Castlebar Mission.

Confirmation Retreat:
Sixth class will be attending their Confirmation retreat on Wednesday 13 th April in Ballintubber Abbey - -They have now completed their Confirmation preparation programme. Well done to all the parents who facilitated the very worthwhile group work.

Heritage in School Scheme:
Martina Butler Heritage Council of Ireland is visiting the school today Wednesday April 6 th. She is facilitating a presentation on Biodiversity to the pupils of 1 st – 3 rd & 5 th class. This is Mrs Butler’s second visit to the school and is funded by the I.N.T.O. Thanks to Mrs. Murrihy and Mrs. Dunne for organising the workshops.

Snugboro School & Community Buffet:
Snugboro School & Community Buffet will be held on Saturday night April 9th 2011 in the Welcome Inn. This is a very enjoyable occasion and a lovely opportunity for people of the Snugboro Community and parents in the school to get together. It is very reasonably priced at €10 per ticket. For that guests will avail of a hot buffet and salad and a great nights entertainment guaranteed with music being provided by Reflex.

Community Mass:
Well done to the Snugboro Development Association on their Community Mass held on March 25 th

School Mass:
The school choir were involved in the liturgy for the school Mass on Sunday 27 th March. Well done to Mrs, Dunne and Mrs Cooney for their work in preparing the choir and to Mrs. Nicola Buckley for her accompaniment.

First Confessions:
Congratulations to the pupils of Second class who made their first Confession and to their teachers, Ms. Walsh and Ms. Hennelly for preparing them so well.

GREEN SCHOOL:
The annual An Táisce clean up will take place on Wednesday 13 th April 2011 at 7.00p.m. On behalf of the school community and the Parents Association we will be inviting you to join in on that evening. We thank in anticipation Mrs. Murrihy and the “Green School” Committee for promoting the event within the school grounds, the pupils will participate in a clean up on Wednesday afternoon.

Congratulation s to Mrs. Murrihy for organising the very successful W.O.W. days. Well done to all who took part – Walking- Cycling – Stride n’ Ride – Car Pooling – Busing - Scooting etc. We will be having another W.O.W. day next Wednesday 13th April 2011

Enrolment Day:
Enrolment days for the Junior Infants 2011/2012 will take place on Thursday 7 th April and Friday 8 th April from 2.30 pm to 4 pm.

Umbra Collection:
The Umbra clothing collection will take place on Thursday 7 th April 2011 proceeds in Aid of St. Luke’s Hospital Dublin.

Football Training:
The Senior classes are availing of Football training provided by G.A.A. coach Martin Costello.

The Clan Cluana Theatre Company:
The Clan Cluana Theatre Company visited the school on Thursday March 24th 2011. All classes enjoyed their production of Cúchulainn.

Linenhall:
Classes from the school participated in several workshops held in the Linenhall arts Centre.

Modern Language for Primary Schools Initiative:
Our two French “ stagieires” Stéphanie Normandin & Marie Lampériere have now completed their placement with us from IUFM, Poitiu, Charentes, Cedex, in France.

Easter Raffle:
Well done to the Parent’s Association on their Easter Raffle. The draw will be held on Thursday 14 th April please return cards before Friday 8 th April 2011. Best of luck also to the P.A. on their old mobile phone collection.

Swimming:
Fifth & Sixth Classes have concluded their second swimming module. Swimming will resume for third and fourth after Easter.

We would like to say a sincere thank you to all involved in the beautiful nativity pagent, which was held on Fri Jan 14 th. A very special thank you to the pupils of First Class and their teachers Ms. Fiona Cribben & Ms. Thelma Healy. Sincere thanks also to Mrs. Gavin for her work in preparing the choir and to Ms.Cafferkey and her traditional music group.

Parents’ Association
We would like to wish the Parents Association the very best of luck as they embark on a project to obtain a defibrillator for the school & wider community. As part of this project they are organising a mobile phone collection, which in conjunction with the Irish heart Foundation will go towards procuring funding for same. The target is 360 phones, which can be sent in over the next number of months ...more details later. We would also like to wish the P.A the very best in their involvement in the Snugboro car boot sale

Credit Union Quiz
We wish the very best of good luck to the members of the Quiz Team competing in the Credit Union Quiz which is being held in Davitt College on Friday coming, Feb. 4 th. The team members are as follows: Team 1:Mairead Mc Cann, Evanna Lyons, John Heanue and Roisin Quinn. Many thanks to their coach Mrs. Angela Gavin for all her work in the preparation of the team.

Congratulations Sarah!
Sincere congratulations to Sarah Bourke 5 th class on the marvellous achievement of having been shortlisted in the nationwide “Brainchild Creative Writing Competition” Sarah’s short story “ Lessons to be learned” is in the top 15! Many thanks & congratulations to class teacher Ms. Schonkeren. Best of luck, Sarah!!

Road Safety:
We wish to acknowledge your ongoing co-operation with regard to parking arrangements and road safety as advised by Noel Gibbons – Mayo Co. Council Safety Officer. We wish to remind people that the car park is not a set –down area and that they should refrain from driving through it. We rely on your continuing support in this regard.

Player of the Year
Congratulations to Barry Walshe 5 th class who has received the Player of the Year Award with Islandeady G.A.A. club. Well-done Barry.

Enrolment:
With regard to enrolment for the school year 2011-2012, it would be important that any parent/legal guardian who has yet to inform the school of a sibling due to begin school in September 2011 would do so immediately. It is also advisable that parent/ legal guardians would contact the school if they need to enter a Childs name on the pre-school register for the forthcoming years.

We wish the very best of luck also to Patricia Mc Tigue tutor with “ La Jollie Ronde” who will be starting French Class in Snugboro Community Centre on Thurs. Feb 3 rd 2011.

Futsal Indoor Soccer League 2011
The futsal soccer league has just kicked off at lunch –time. Teams comprise of pupils from 5 th & 6 th classes. There is a separate league for boys and girls. There are six teams participating in the girl’s league and seven in the boys. We wish all the participants an enjoyable competition. Sincere and many thanks to Mrs. Ruttledge for organising and co-ordinating the leagues.

Green Schools:
Many thanks to all for your on-going co-operation with our green school policies and the transport of re-cyclable matter to Derrynumera. Anyone willing to add their name to the rota may contact the school.

Educate Me:
Educate Me will visit the school on February 18 th 2011 with a presentation and workshop of Mini-Beasts....... more details later.

Food Allergy/Healthy Eating Policy
We appreciate & request your on-going support with regard to maintaining our healthy eating policy and in helping to keep school a safe place for Matthew & Aisling .We request that any nut based products or cereal bars are not included in lunches. Renewed thanks for your co-operation

Castlebar Library:
Sixth class attended the “Fighting for Dignity”: Jewish Resistance in Krakow last week in Castlebar Library. Many thanks to Ms. Schonkeren for accompanying the class to the event, which proved very informative, and interesting.

School Mass
The school choir and sixth class pupils will be involved in the liturgy at the 10a.m. Mass on Sunday November 7th 2010. Sincere and many thanks to Mrs. Angela Gavin for organising the choir. A special thank you to Miss Mc Hale for preparing the children with their readings and to Mrs. Nicola Buckley for accompanying the choir.

Cross country Competitions:
Congratulations to the Senior Boys Cross Country Team on winning third place in the County Championships at Belleek Castle. Best of Luck as they go forward to the Connaught Championships in Sligo on Saturday, Oct. 21st. Many thanks to Mr. Eamonn Shaughnessy who is training and accompanying the team members.

Food Allergy:
Sincere and many thanks to everybody for your support in making school a safe place for Matthew and Aisling. Your co-operation with regard to our food policy is truly appreciated. We remind all, that with Halloween just around the corner to be extra careful with regard to nut foods and nut –based products. Renewed thanks to all.

Road Safety:
We wish to acknowledge your wonderful co-operation and support in terms of the parking arrangements at the school with the car park area being kept clear at all times and not used as a walkway. The area for the school Buses is clearly marked and again for safety reasons we ask that it be kept clear at all times. We look forward to your continued support in this regard.

Halloween:
As recommended by Noel Gibbons, Safety Officer Mayo County Council we advise pupils to take good care over Halloween and that young children should be accompanied by an adult if they are embarking on Trick or Treat activities.

Cycling Safety:
A series of cycling training lessons for 5th and 6th class have been facilitated by Gerry Butler. Sincere thanks to Mr. Butler for all his help and support.

WOW/COW & European Mobility Week
Well done to those pupils who represented the school on Sept 22nd at the cycling activity day.

Linenhall Arts Centre:
As part of the Roola Boola Arts Festival the pupils of 3 rd class have visited the Cascade Exhibition by artist Vanessa Davis and they have also participated in the workshop. Fifth class will be participating on Friday Oct. 22nd.

Scholastic Book Fair:
Many thanks to all who supported the recent and very successful book fair. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Emer Dunne who co-ordinated the event

Midland Theatre Company:
The Midland Theatre Company will visit the school on Friday November 26th 2010. They will be presenting Dick Whittington to all classes in the Hall.

Mayo County Library:
The pupils of 6 th class attended a presentation by popular childrens’ Author Darren Shan in Mayo County Library. Many thanks to the staff of Mayo County Library for hosting the event and affording so many worthwhile opportunities to the school. Sincere thanks also to Miss Catherine Mc Hale for accompanying the class.

County Final:
We wish the Castlebar Mitchells the very best of luck in the County Final on Sunday October 24th

All Ireland Fleadh Ceoil:
Congratulations to past pupil Patrick Boyle musician with an grúpa ceoil “ The Rolling Waves” on the groups success in winning this years Fleadh Ceoil.

Family Life Services:
The Rainbows Programme in The Family Centre is about to commence for 2010. The information night will be held on Wed Oct.22nd @ 8pm and the programme will begin on November 3rd 2010.

Biodiversity Presentation:
A big thank you to Martina Butler, B.Sc for the series of presentations on Trees and Biodiversity held in the school on Sept. 30th. This event was co-funded by the Heritage Council and the I.N.T.O. Thanks to Mrs. Emer Dunne for organising the days programme.

Science Week:
In conjunction with Science week pupils of 6th class will be attending a science workshop in Davitt College, Castlebar on Thurs Oct. 21st

September 2010

We wish to extend a warm welcome back to all for the 2010 – 2011 school year. We hope that you all had a very enjoyable summer. We wish to extend a warm welcome to our Junior Infants children as they begin primary school. Every good wish to last years 6th class who are commencing post-primary education this autumn. We wish them every success and happiness in the years that lie ahead. We would also like to congratulate our past pupils on their recent Leaving and Junior Cert results and we wish them every success in the future.

We would also like to renew our thanks to you all for your co-operation over the course of this past year with special mention to all the work that went into the Art Dedication and Green Schools award ceremony. A big thank you to all those parents involved in the litter rota to Derrynumera Land Fill.

Personal Insurance:
The forms for personal insurance of the pupils for the coming year 2010/2011 are being circulated. The cover costs €5 for school and school related activities only. It costs €8 for 24-hour cover. If you do decide to avail of the personal insurance please return the form and the premium to the class-teacher before Wednesday 22nd September.

Lunch Policy:
We wish to thank everybody for their support and co-operation in making school a safe place for Matthew, Aisling and Cian, by refraining from including any nut based products in your childs/chiildrens lunches.

Asthma Inhalers:
We would request that any parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s) whose child/children are carrying inhalers in their school bags and have not contacted the school already to do so a.s.a.p. If your child(ren) have inhalers in the school already please check that the expiry date/dosage are correct.

Swimming:
Swimming lessons have begun for 3rd & 4th class pupils from 11p.m. – 12 p.m. on Tuesdays in Castlebar swimming pool The all-in cost of the bus and pool –hire is €25 . Each module will last for six weeks.

Safe Cycling:
Gerry Butler Mayo School of Safe Cycling will be facilitating cycle training for 5th & 6th classes.

Cross Country:
Cross Country Training and team trials are ongoing. Many thanks to Mr. Eamonn Shaughnessy who is training and selecting the team members.

Parking Area:
Thank you all with regard to the parking arrangements. With the inclusion of a staff car park in the school grounds there is extra parking space outside the school. We ask that the car park is not used as a set down area or for walking through, for safety reasons. We would also appreciate if the Bus parking area is kept clear at all times, again for safety reasons. We request and appreciate your ongoing co-operation with these arrangements.

Parents’ Association:
The parents Association will be co-opting new representatives from parents over the next few weeks. Being a member is an opportunity to become involved in helping out in extra-curricular activities, such as maintaining the schools physical building, fundraising, helping out on St. Patrick’s Day and catering occasions. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual members for all their help in the past and to commend them for their fundraising projects. The purchase of a school lawn mower and two further sound field systems from the proceeds are very welcome additions to the school resources.

Prefab:
A number of old school chairs are available if parents/ legal guardians wish to have them for their playroom /garage, please contact office.

Congratulations:
We wish to Congratulate Ms. Leanne Moran on her recent marriage to Mr. Jonathan Rice. We wish them both health, wealth and happiness in their future together .

Green Schools :
Well done to the Green School on their marvellous success during the last year in gaining our Fourth Green Flag for the theme of “Travel”. We wish them the best of luck as they embark on their next project, which is on the theme of “Biodiversity” More details later

Annual Carol Service:
A sincere thank you to everyone who was involved in the Annual Carol service which was held on Monday December 21st. Sincere and many thanks to Mrs. Angela Gavin who prepared the choir and to all the classes & their teachers for their participation. The carols, music, readings, prayers and reflections created a prayerful & happy Christmas atmosphere. Many thanks to Ms. Cafferkey for her traditional music group and to Ms. Schonkeren for her classical group. Also sincere thanks to Nicola Buckley who accompanied her guitar group, and for use of her sound equipment!

We would like to sincerely thank the Parents’ Association for organising a visit from Mr.Claus and for decorating the school for the festive season.

Parents’ Association Calendars
Well done to the Parents’Association on their project in the production of 2010 school calendars for each class.This was a very project successful and raised €1,496! A special word of appreciation to Paul Coffey for his photography and design and to Cashins Printing for their support.

Credit Union Quiz
We wish the very best of good luck to both Quiz Teams who are competing in the Credit Union Quiz which is being held in Davitt College tonight @ 7. 30 pm. The team members are as follows: Team 1: Tiernan Mc Cann, David Conlon, Maitiu Mc Cormack, Orla Scanlon. Team 2: Sarah Bourke,Siofrá Mc Hale, Tiernan Walshe, Ciaran Bourke. Annual Buffet and Social:
Snugboro School and Community Committee are currently organising a Social & Dance which will be held in the Welcome Inn on Saturday March 13 th 2010.A hot buffet meal will be served. Music will be provided on the night by Mystic. Tickets will be on sale shortly costing €25 each. A word of appreciation to the committee for organising this function over the past three years, which has proved to be a great success and a very enjoyable night out .

Lunch – Time Futsal League
Congratulations to the winning teams in the Futsal Lunch –Time League. West Ham, captained by Seamie Lally beat Middlesboro, captained by Kevin Sweeney. In the girls league Liverpool, captained by Kayleigh Mc Donagh beat Newcastle, captained by Aoife Cooke.

Tokens:
Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful support in collecting the Daily Mail Tokens! We have been furnished with a Dell Laptop, which is a welcome addition to our I. T. equipment library. It was a great achievement to collect the token in a short space of time. Well done everyone!

“You shall be my Witness Confirmation”
There will be a meeting for the parent(s )/guardian(s) of sixth class pupils on Tuesday, February 9th @ 8pm in the school hall. The confirmation programme will take place during Lent.

Sincere thanks to all who so generously supported the Haiti Fundraiser Quiz & No- Uniform Day held on Fri.Jan.22 nd. Many thanks to Mrs. Angela Gavin who organised & co-ordinated the Table Quiz. Congratulations to the winning teams! A total of €2243.07 was raised in the appeal.

School Carol Service
The annual Carol Service will be held in the School Hall at 11a.m. on Monday the 21 st December 2009.All areWelcome.Classes are busy preparing for the ceremony. We are looking forward to welcoming the Christmas season with carols, prayers, readings and reflections.

Church Carol Service:
The school choir participated in the annual Carol Service in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar on December at 7.30 p.m. Sincere thanks to Mrs Gavin for preparing and accompanying the choir.

Hurling:
Third and Fourth Classes attended a Hurling Blitz in Breaffy on the 19 th of November. Many thanks to Ms. McHale for accompanying the teams on the day.

Swimming:
Congratulation to Una Togher and her family who came first in her competition, winning an All Ireland Title in the National Swimming Gala. Well done and congratulations also to her coach Marie Healy.

Mobile Phones:
Many thanks to all who brought in mobile phones for recycling in association with B&O Recycling Ltd, in aid of the Friends of Calcutta Fund.

Congratulations:
We wish to congratulate Ms. Paula Ring and her fiancé Furgus Bourke and Ms. Derika Schonkeren and her fiancé Kevin Walsh also recently announced their engagement.

Parents Association Calendars:

National Energy Awareness
Many thanks to Julie McGee, Energy Consultant N.E.A. who has worked closely with us here at the school over the past term on energy efficiency projects.

Traditional Music Class
Miss Mairead Cafferty will holding one remaining music lesson for groups early in the new year. Sincere appreciation to Mairead for her work with traditional music students.

Classical Flute Lessons
Many thanks to Ms Dirika Schonkeren for facilitating classical flute

Oriental culture
Sincere thanks to Linda Wing for presenting a work-shop on oriental culture food and costumes to the Senior Infants children as part of their SPHE lesson.

School Garden:
The development of the garden is progressing very well! Many thanks to Mr. Eamonn Shaughnessy for his work with it and also with the sensory garden.

We would like to thank the following people for their help and co-operation over the last year.

  • The Parents’ Association who decorated the school so beautifully for the festive season. Many thanks to those who put up the trees and decorations on Dec. 5 th. Sincere thanks to those who provided the trees and the lights. Also many thanks to the Association for their help in other school activities.
  • Green Schools Mrs Murrihy & The Green School Committee and indeed all of the parents for their wonderful support of our Green School travel theme. Special thanks is due to the Green Schools Parents sub Committee of the Parent’s Association for their work in the area of bringing recyclable materials to the landfill site near Newport.
  • Fr John Murray for his work as school chaplain and also for his spiritual support to the classes preparing for the sacraments. Mrs Catherine Reilly (Secretary) and Mr. Michael Lavelle (Caretaker) for their wonderful support and dedication to all of us in our work. Though they work quietly in the background it is the efficiency of their work that helps the school to run so smoothly.
  • Nicola Buckley for her on-going support with the school choir and guitar lessons.
  • Sean O’Brien for grass cutting in preparation for sports day, also Michael Barrett, Kevin Burke
  • Organisations associated with school Mayo Co. Library, Orla and Noreen and staff of Castlebar Swimming Pool.

Thank you all with regard to the parking arrangements. With the inclusion of a staff car park in the school grounds there is extra parking space outside the school. We ask that the car park is not used as a set down area or for walking through, for safety reasons. Parents’ Association:
The parents Association will be co-opting new representatives from parents over the next few weeks. Being a member is an opportunity to become involved in helping out in extra-curricular activities, such as maintaining the schools physical building, fundraising, helping out on St. Patrick’s Day and catering occasions. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual members for all their help in the past. I wish to extend a particular thanks to those who gave many hours of their time in preparation for the official opening last year.

Green School Travel Theme:
In conjunction with our “Green School Travel Theme” there will be a W.O.T. day i.e. walk to school on Tuesday September 22 nd . On Monday September 21 st 2009 Mayo Co Co are hosting an activity day to promote cycling as a sustainable means of travel. Our “Green School” committee will be representing our school on the day. The school’s travel project is presently on display in Mayo County Library.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Peadar Leonard “Bike World” (beside the Welcome Inn) Castlebar for his very interesting presentation on Cycle Safety and also for sponsoring a bicycle for a raffle held in the school. €592.00 was raised on the raffle. Congratulations to Fushia Fadian who won the Bicycle and Ellen Mc Hale who won a helmet.

Confirmation:
We wish to congratulate the pupils in sixth class who made their Confirmation. We wish to thank their class teacher Mr Peter Tuohy for the wonderful work which he did in preparing the pupils for the big day. Great credit is due to both he and the pupils for the beautiful art work which adorned the church on the day. Thanks are also due to Mrs Dunne, Mrs Cooney and Sr. Margo for training and conducting the choir. A word of appreciation to Mrs Catherine Reilly (school secretary) for the wonderful booklet which she prepared with the children, everyone was impressed by same. Rounders Blitz Victory:
Congratulations to the Rounders teams for their wonderful victory in winning the Rounders Blitz in Breaffy on Tuesday June 23 rd 2009. Well done to Ann Murrihy & Peter Tuohy for training the team. Congratulations to the Camogie team who won the County Championship Cumann na mBun Scoil competition

Sports Day:
A very successful sports day was held on Thurs. 4 th June 2009. We wish to acknowledge the generosity and support of Snugboro Soccer Club for making their pitch and facilities available to us on that day. We also acknowledge with gratitude the generous sponsorship of the parents association towards the cost of running sports day. The prizes will be presented before the end of June. Thanks to all the parents who took time off to give their support to the children. Their presence lent atmosphere to the occasion.

Mass:
On Tuesday afternoon June 23 rd 2009 a Mass was held in the school for the pupils and parents of 6 th class. We wish to thank Fr. John Murray, and Mr. Tuohy for the very beautiful Mass, which they had prepared. Sincere thanks to Nicola Reilly for accompanying the choir and to Mrs. Emer Dunne, Mrs. Anne Cooney and Ms Catherine McHale for their work with the choir. Each 6 th class pupil was presented with a certificate to acknowledge the end of their Primary School Education. We wish the 6 th class every success and happiness in post-primary school. A special word of farewell to those families whose last child will be finishing in the school. We thank them for all their help and support over the years.

Congratulations:
Congratulations past pupil to Jason Collins who was awarded 1 st year student of the year in St. Gerald’s Secondary school. Well-done Jason. Also congratulations to 6 th class student Stephen Barrett who has being nominated for the Irish Boxing Team.

School Tours:
On Wednesday 10th June... junior infants together with Ms McDonnell and Ms Cafferkey had a very enjoyable trip to Westport House.

On Monday 22nd June... senior infants classes with their teachers Ms. Murrihy, Ms. Ryan and Mrs Monahan visited Kiltimagh Pet farm and Maghu’s Castle.

On Thursday 18th June... the pupils of 1 st class also visited Kiltimagh Pet farm and Maghu’s Castle.

On Wednesday 27th May... the pupils from 2 nd class visited the Volvo Ocean Race in Galway.

On Friday 19th June.. 3 rd & 4 th class went to Cong Holiday Centre and Corrib Cruise.

On Friday 5th June... 5 th & 6 th class went to Killarey and visited the Killarey Adventure Centre.

An annual trip to an adventure centre is one of the recommendations now contained in the revised P.E. curriculum.

We would like to thank the following people for their help and co-operation over the last year.

West Midland Theatre Company:
The West Midland Theatre Company will visit the school on Tues Nov. 25th.They will be presenting “ Beauty and the Beast”. Cost €2.50 per child.

Welcome
We wish to extend a wam welcome to Miss Leanne Moran and Miss Dirika Schonkeren who have been appointed to the teaching staff here in St. Peter’s. Miss Moran has taken up her teaching duties with fourth class and Miss Schonkeren has taken up hers in fifth class. We wish them the best of luck, fulfillment and all God’s blessings in their teaching careers. We also wish the very best of luck to Mrs. Deirdre Ruttledge and Mr. Eamonn Shaughnessy who are now working in the area of language support and resource teaching here with us. We thank them for them for their work with 4th and 5th class.

They were awarded 3 rd place, which was a marvellous achievement. The team members were Cloddagh Healy, Siofrá Horan, Niamh Breslin and Kianna Higgins. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied on the day.
The pupils of 3rd and 4th Classes are attending for swimming lessons at present. 1st and 2nd classes will begin their modules on Tuesday December 9th 2008. We thank the staff of Castlebar swimming pool for their tuition, support and co-operation in facilitating the lessons.

Science Week Ireland:
In conjunction with Science Week Ireland the pupils of Sixth class have been invited to participate in a Science Workshop in Davitt College consisting of “ Hands – On” practical activities workshop in December.

Green School’s News:
In conjunction with our new Green School’s theme on Travel, Ms. Eva Gannon from, An Táisce visited our school on Nov, 4th and gave a very informative and interesting presentation to 3rd to 6th class on “ carbon emissions”. She explained that if everyone does something small by way of reducing carbon emissions the overall reduction will be great. Also classes from 1st to 6th have completed a survey on travel behaviour of students travelling to and from school and these results will be compiled and the information made available to you in the near future. The aim of the travel theme will be to promote alternative forms of transport to the private car. Many thanks to Mrs. Anne Murrihy for all her work and involvement with the Green School Committee.

Camogie Mini- Sevens:
The school’s camogie team have participated in the mini-sevens league which was held in Claremorris on Fri. 12 TH November. They team won their first three matches against Knock, Toreen and Scoill Rafteií and conceeded victory to Ballyvary in the final. Many thanks to Mr. Tuohy, Mr. Shaughnessy and Mr. Briscoe for their work and involvement.

Forthcoming events for 2009:
Early in 2009 we hope to have an open day at the school which will afford people the opportunity to view the new building which should be fully completed by then.

On Sat Feb 7th 2009 the social committee will be hosting a School and Community annual buffet. More details later! A tentative date for the official opening has been set for April 2nd 2009.
