St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Band
We were preparing for weeks before the parade. There were 150 boys participating. Some boys were playing tin whistles, melodica, drums, cymbals, lyres and tambourines. There was a big turn out for practices each day and everyone was looking forward to the big day. We had been told to meet at the Sportlann and the boys in the Pageant were told to be there earlier than the others. We were to be there at 1.50. We came with our sash, hat, jacket and uniform.
We left the Sportlann at half past two and went down to McHale Rd. where we took up our position behind the school band. We had to wait there for quite some time in the cold before eventually being allowed to begin marching towards town. We went past Tobin's Clinic.  Then we came to the Mall. We came to Heaton's and we turned down the corner and came to the traffic lights and we stopped for a minute. We came up by the church, past the school and around by the Welcome Inn. We noticed that there were not as many people out watching as other years, probably because it was soooo cold. We came up by Main Street and then we stopped at the bandstand. I had to move to the back of the band and the people with the small flags and the banner went in front of the band for our bandstand performance. We went down Castle Street to finish in the Car Park.

The Quiz Team
After a series of exhausting trials the U13 team was determined. The U13 consists of Ronan Ludden, Ronan O Malley, Patrick Calvey and Thomas Quinn Bailie. There also was super sub Shane Dolan. Mr. Mc Evilly prepared us with extremely difficult questions every Tuesday and Friday. The U11 came first in the U11 Credit Union Quiz and the U13 came third in a very tight finish. St. Pats did so well in the Credit Union quiz that the teams should have been flourished in money. Ronan Ludden, Ronan O Malley, Thomas Quinn Bailie and Philip King was the team representing St. Pats in the pioneer quiz. St. Pats did really well in this quiz.  Ronan Ludden, Ronan O Malley, Thomas Quinn Bailie and Philip King were the team representing St. Pats in the pioneer quiz. St. Pats did really well in this  quiz. They won cinema passes courtesy of Mayo Movie World. The U13s  won €15 for coming in an excellent third. The U11s got €25 each for coming in a smooth first place. There were heaps of people at the quizzes in Davitt College. Everybody was very smart on the u 13s team. The pioneer quiz team this year was the best team the school could have produced. Every player was extra valuable to each team. Mr. Mc Evilly was hugely enthusiastic for us to win our quizzes.

The Pageant
Before St Patrick's Day there was a lot of practise for the pageant. There were snakes, a dragon, St. Patrick, warriors who got their faces painted and flag bearers to be prepared in time for the big event. The main teachers who organised the pageant were Mrs. Galvin, Ms. Cresham, Mrs. Regan, Mrs. McManaman and Mrs.Grady.
It was a very cold day for the parade. We had to be at An Sportlann at half one in order to be painted and dressed up in time. The Parade started at half two. It ended at four o'clock. It was a great day but a very cold day. After St Patricks Day we got a
