The lights

The lights weren't turned on by politicians or henchmen, unless you count Mr.Claus or 'Millennium Bug' who were mobbed by the large gang of kids present at 5pm this afternoon. The Girls of St. Josephs sang beautifully - raising charity funds. The lights as a whole are paid for by the traders of the complete town not on a street by street basis.

There was indeed a delay because of the gales, last Sunday morning (when the contract electricians normally put them up to avoid traffic disruption) so things were running a bit behind but I reckon they will get to Castle Street fairly shortly. There is still a huge crane/hoist on main street this evening completing the job. You couldn't postpone the event though because the kids would be mightily disappointed.

Lights are an expensive business at almost 20,000 quid for the town as a whole - individual traders have to pay for them - as it should be. As for artistic, I though they were supposed to be nice and brash!
