It depends on how you define 'not contributing'. I don't agree with your definition.
There is a lot to be said about work to live or live to work, and I do agree the Scandinavian model is a very good one. What I dont like is the Tax credits given to a one working couple. If I could I would do away with it altogether.
But what to replace it with? A creditable childrens allowance (but not enough that people could make money from having children). The only work done in the home, worthy of government support, is rearing children (OK carer is another). Giving Tax breaks to housewives who are not mothers is nothing but silly. Maybe Im too much of a 90s man and dont believe that women should be at home looking after the house (not children) while I the Man ( not your Man paranoia) go out to work.
I don't know anything about the FF, FG strategy you're on about. Maybe you could explain.
The strategy was that the two parties would agree general principles and not continuously oppose the others motions.
e.g. the FF proposed lessening the amount given to hospitals and closing a few of then. FG said to close a few hospitals and that would mean giving less money.
Same principles different approaches. What the Tallagh Stragity did was to allow the government of the day use its approach, thus things got done.
