I had another lurk around the sligo.ie site this morning. It is very impressive. They have set up a small e-commerce site , have a jobs section and seem to have almost daily updates of news in sligo. Though I must say they seem to get very few visitors compared to the castlebar.ie site.
Without meaning to ape their site, I suggest a jobs page would be a good addition to the Castlebar site. Even if it is just one Recruitment Agency advertising jobs on the sligo site, it is better than none.
I agree with some of my fellow posters that the Ennis.ie site is a bit of disaster. Yes it has lots of flashy graphics, but the site design lacks clarity and easy of navigation.
Their BB is probably the worst aspect of the site, this is borne out by the lack of postings to it. No one seems to care about the BB on ennis.ie. I remember the eruption of anger, dismay and happiness that broke out when the layout of the castlebar.ie BB was re-designed. At least people seemed to care.
Whether or not people in ennis use their free PCs to use e-mail is really irrelevant. I suspect the same thing would have happened in castlebar, most people would sign up for the freebies and lose interest after a few weeks. At least if people have to pay for them, then the incentive is greater to use it.
Sure VisaCash seems to have been a bit of a damp squib. But that is not really the fault of the people of Ennis. The scheme seems to have been badly thought-out and implemented. If it was such a good thing the citizens of ennis would have used it more extensively. Indeed, if they are using it to pay for parking what’s wrong with that. ?
It was used as a testbed for the P & T, and no one should quibble with that. They after all stumped up the cash.
