One thing that all this furore over the budget is showing is that the government doesn't even have confidence in it's own proposals. As soon as there was a sign of protest they just climbed down and through in some ad-hoc modifications to try and calm the situation. The ad-hoc proposals haven't been properly thought out and actually make things worse.
It doesn't give me much confidence in the people managing the country's affairs.
Posters to the BB here actually made a better job of trying to defend the budget than the government did.
It all highlights the fact that this government is living off the benefits of the economy and not managing those benefits to create a better and more equitable society.
"Oh we have a billion surplus in the bank, aren't we a great government altogether".
No, you're not, you're just mismanaging the economy and abusing the system for short term political gain.
