Here another one for ye

At the beginning of WW1 the British Army were supplied with cloth helmets. Due to the massive amount of casualties being suffered, the War Office decided to change to Steel Helmets in 1915. However contrary to expectations, the amount of soldiers being admitted to hospital with head injuries actually went up instead of down. Why so?
