Beauty and the Beast - a match made in .... Castlebar!
Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson
Lurking deep in the dark recesses of Mick Byrnes pub, you could barely see him, but you could see his eyes, and hear him growl - only coming out at night, the hairy beast was spotted every June Bank Holiday during the 18th Guinness Castlebar Blues Festival. Lonely, grumpy, he's travelled the world-over looking for love, wandering from his hometown in Australia, to the US, the UK and Castlebar. It is here that a chance encounter allowed him to meet his bride, the beautiful Cara Robinson.
Both are on the bill of what is now the longest running blues festival in Ireland. This year the festival again delivers a melting pot of blues gumbo - with free admission on the Blues Trail, and a general bar extension. The bars see some returning favourites and some new visitors from all over the globe, including, from the US, Big Daddy Webster, Peter Lang and Chicago Red; from Australia, Hat Fitz and Mark ‘Dingo' Russell; from Germany, Thomas Schied; from the UK, Dave Peabody and Colin Earl; and from Ireland, Ali & the DTs, Cara Robinson, Sons of Gingerbread, Parchman Farm, Trevor Hansbury, Left Right and Centre and the Mark Black Band.
Headliners for the festival include concerts from Imelda May, Willie Nelson and Status Quo.
With over 35 gigs with free admission, Castlebar is the place to be for lovers of live music, 4th - 7th June Bank holiday weekend.
