Castlebar’s online electronic voters say out with the old and in with the new!

Paddy McGuinness and Johnny Mee are likely to top the poll and be elected on the first count according to interim results from our online poll currently running here on the Castlebar website. While online polls are notoriously fickle, it does look like the Castlebar Electoral Area for Mayo County Council is set for a big shake up. A lot of the current incumbents are likely to lose their seat if the online community at www.castlebar.ie have their way or are reflective of the population at large. Will Sean Bourke and Al McDonnell lose their seats on Mayo County Council? It is hard to see how veteran councillor Al McDonnell, the popular auctioneer, will lose his seat. But nationally Fianna Fail are reputed to be taking a drubbing on doorsteps right across the country in view of voter dissatisfaction with perceived broken promises made at the last general election. Similarly, there are some surprises for Fine Gael with Henry Kenny not proving popular with Castlebar’s online voters.

In the Town Council poll Johnny Mee, Aidan Crowley and Harry Barrett appear to be doing well. The online pollers are not supporting Blackie Gavin but this has also happened in previous online polls too when Blackie Gavin has done extremely well in the real poll.

In the European Elections the vote is now very close apart from Jim Higgins (FG) who, not unexpectedly, is ahead by a margin. After that Harkin (Ind), O Neachtain (FF) and Pearse Doherty (SF) and even Baxter are in strong contention. It will depend on transfers. Obviously this is a large constituency and this mainly Mayo-based poll only suggests how one small slice of voters are thinking. You can still have your say right up to midnight on 9th of June.
