An exciting new series of public lectures will commence on October 26th in GMIT Castlebar Campus at 8.00pm sharp. The lectures will focus on contemporary issues ranging from Ecology, Religion, Feminism, Violence and Business ethics. The main purpose of this series is to make the general public aware of the kind of academic reflection and research being undertaken with regard to contemporary issues. Each of the five speakers will present a short paper which will be followed by an open discussion reflecting certain themes and issues the paper may have raised. The line-up of speakers arranged for this series includes some of Ireland’s best academics. The duration of each lecture will be approximately one hour.

The following is a list of dates and titles of each presentation:

Sean Freyne: 26th Oct: Ecology and the Bible.

Fr. Pat O’Brien: 2nd Nov: Religious freedom and slavery

Dr. Linda Hogan: 10th Nov: Exploring feminist philosophies

Dr. Felix O Murchadha: 16th Nov: Violence

Speaker to be announced 23rd Nov: Business Ethics

Admission Free: All are welcome

"It is a worrying trend in today’s society that many people are not familiar with any type of research or academic endeavours, other than science or technology; this series hopes to show that academic research in the arts is just as prominent." says Davy Walsh, Religious Studies lecturer at GMIT Castlebar and co-ordinator of the public lecture series.
