The dreams and hard work of the Mitchels lay shattered in the gloom of Holymount last Sat as Shrule/Glencorrib killed off the chance of a quick return to senior football. A game that both sides had to win was obviously going to be a dogged affair and so the first half was. With the tenseness obvious among all the players, scores were few. By the 15 minute Shrule/Glencorrib had gone into a 3 points to Niall Lydon pointed free lead. Although the Mitchels were chasing the game points from Kennedy, Lydon and Byrne gave them a 4 points to 3 lead coming up to half time. However a free to Shrule/Glencorrib was brought forward into scoring range for mouthing off the ball and they took the opportunity to square the match at 4 points each at half time.

The second half burst into life as Shane Fitzmaurice caught the throw in and placed a perfect ball behind the defence for Eamonn Kennedy to grasp the opportunity and leave the goalkeeper with no chance as he shot to the net. Points followed from Paul Jordan, Dwayne Flynn and Diarmuid Byrne to a solitary point for Shrule/Glencorrib. Between to 10th and the 20th min however Conor Mortimer scored 1-4 to leave his team a point ahead. Diarmuid Byrne scored a fortuitous goal in the 22nd min but then the Mitchels conceded 3 further points before Diarmuid Byrne equalised in the 31st min. But then two minutes later Shrule/Glencorrib were awarded a free and, with the aid of the upright, the ball went over and this was to be the final nail in the Mitchel's coffin.

Though depressed, shattered and deeply disappointed this is now the time for reflection, leadership and cool analysis. The foundations for the future have been laid with the current team.

Ciaran Naughton, Brian Hennelly, Ritchie Feeney, Paul Harte, Tim Byrne, Brian Malone, Declan Shaw, Kevin Malone, Shane Fitzmaurice, Dwayne Flynn (0-1), Jamie Fitzmaurice, Niall Lydon (0-2), Eamonn Kennedy (1-1), Diarmuid Byrne (1-3), Paul Jordan (0-1). Subs Paul Fitzmaurice for Jordan, Rory O Grady for Kennedy, John Fahy for Tim Byrne

Mitchels U10s:
The curtain came down on the U-10 season with a very keenly contested blitz final with the U-11s last Saturday. There were eight minutes of added time played for the golden score as both teams were on 2 - 4 at full time. The U-11s snatched the vital point after some very regulate defence by the U-10. For the winners Shane Moran Aiden Walsh Ciaran Walsh and Phillip Redmond were very impressive and for the U-10s Rory Byrne Shane Reilly Paul Regan Rory Tuohy and Liam Martin battled right to the final whistle, this group augers well for the U-12s next year. Shane Moran captain of the U-11s was presented with the Seanie Flynn cup which has been donated to Bord Na Og by his family in memory of his service to the club.

Mitchels U-8s
The U-8 autumn league finals were hotly contested at McHale Park last Saturday in fine but very frosty conditions. In the first game Emmetts snatched victory over McHales with a late point to win 5 - 4. To the fore for the winners were Jamie Redmond David Bell Cathal Walsh and Nicholas Jordan, and trying hard for McHales were Joseph Redmond Jamie Lydon Donagh Barry and Tony Hoban.

In the next game between the Davitts and Pearses went down to the wire with Pearses snatching a point in added time to deny Davitts who were also denied by hitting the upright and were unable to overcome the loss of Conor Moylette through injury. Tony Sweeney Martin Collins James Durcan and Rossa Clancy played impressively for Davitts and Micheal Flynn Nathan O Malley Kevin Keena and Brian O Malley were prominent for the winners.

It is a credit to these young players the dedication they have shown during the year and it is hoped this continues and they always enjoy playing football for the club.
