Intermediate Championship
Kilmeena 2-7 : Castlebar Mitchels 2-7
A draw was probably the fairest result of this first round Intermediate championship game played in Kilmeena last Sunday. Although playing with the aid of a strong breeze, Mitchels were unable to put a dominating score on the board and only led by 4 points at half. A number of fine individual efforts could have gone into the net but points were taken. A further goal after only three minutes of the second half seemed to be the tonic but it was Kilmeena who showed the greater hunger and slowly clawed back the lead. In a nail biting finish Kilmeena drew level with five mins to go and on a number of occasion could have had that vital score. Mitchels may have got out of jail on this occasion but if they are to be serious contenders for further advancement a huge improvement will be required. The next and vital championship outing will be a home game against Tourmakeady
Junior Championship
Castlebar Mitchels 1-6 ; Eastern Gaels 1-10
What does this team have to do to get a win. Hitting the upright on four occasions, scoring only a point from two penalties in the last five mins, having the penalty that ended in the back of the net to be retaken, missing scores from in front of the goal, the heartbreak goes on. A great feature however was the number of players who turned up and with even a little effort who knows what this team can yet achieve.
Mayo v Galway
Preparations are now underway and members who would like to help out are very welcome to McHale Park any evening and take part in some useful exercise in weeding, sanding, scraping etc. Bring along a few tools and spread the word as well as the work
Match Report U12B Castlebar v Crossmolina
Crossmolina 6-8 Castlebar Mitchels B 0-2
Crossmolina proved too strong for the Mitchels B team in the latest round of the Under-12 league, played in Crossmolina on Monday of last week. The sides were fairly evenly matched in the first half, and after Crossmolina had scored an early goal, a Shane Dolan point kept Mitchels in contention. However Crossmolina got on top as the half wore on, and by half-time they had built up a lead of 2-3 to 0-1. They continued to dominate during the second-half, and the only reply from Castlebar was a point from Daniel Byrne. This is a very young Mitchels team, most whom are underage again next year, and they are looking forward to the latter stages of the league, when they will be pitted against teams closer to their own standard.
Team : Daniel Byrne (0-1), Kevin Kilcoyne, Colman Munnelly, Ronan Ludden, Liam Conlon, Joseph Redmond, Rossa Glancy, Shane Dolan (0-1), Eoin Thornton, Jamie Redmond, Conor Murtagh, Adrian Rocke, Laurence Kenchington, Jack Sheerin, Tommy Reilly.
Subs : Luke Dunne, Michael Maughan, Cian McGowan, Tony Hoban, Barry Lane.
