New Community Access Centre for Castlebar

With the official opening of the new office of the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce on Spencer St. comes a new Community Access Centre. Sponsored by eircom Information Age prize fund there are now eight computers on-line in the Chamber office for public use. You can drop in from 9:30am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm and browse the Internet for free. The facility reaffirms the Chamber's commitment to make Castlebar the IT centre of the West.

This replaces the old Information Age Centre on Ellison St. which was extremely popular and now with eight computers on-line even more people will be able to avail of the chance to surf the Internet.

HOME PAGE PLEASE!

We are trying to increase the number of hits to Castlebar's web sites. Last month we had our greatest monthly total yet with 97,000 hits! While the main method we are using to increase the number of visitors is by having great content, we are asking people to help by setting their startup Internet page to www.castlebar.ie. Many people don't realise that they can change their startup page - but it's very simple - try it:

If you are using Internet Explorer:
Select the following menu items in sequence:
View, Options, Navigation (this is a tab)
and then set the address box to http://www.castlebar.ie

If you are using Netscape:
Select the following menu items in sequence:
Edit, Preferences and then set the location box to http://www.castlebar.ie

The next time you dial up, Castlebar will appear automatically!

From this base you can search the Internet using Altavista, the Irish Times is just one click away as are local weather, TV pages and a popular software download site. If you would like us to add other links that you use regularly let us know and we will add them to the home page.

The benefits will be increased traffic through the Castlebar site and a greater incentive to keep building up Castlebar's web sites and to keep them going in the long term.
