Traditionally on Mission Sunday we think of the mission of the Church abroad and today’s collection goes to support that effort throughout the world.  Many people from our own parish, priests, sisters and lay people are working in many parts of the world in spreading the gospel.  We think of our emigrants who brought the faith wherever they went in the world.  We pray for all of them today and for the mission in Huancané in Peru, 12,000 feet above sea level with which our own parish is linked.  Sister Ann Marie Burke from Aughadrina and two Peruvian sisters are working with the people there.

We must however not forget our own mission here at home, of spreading and supporting the gospel and faith in a changing Ireland.  It’s a great challenge to us to bear witness to the faith today, and prepare for the future where there will be less priests and religious.  At the 12.30p.m. Mass today, 10 lay parents are being commissioned for their part in Baptismal teams in our parish in the future - to support parents in their faith and help with this most important sacrament of Baptism.

Today we give thanks for our faith, for our parish, and for all who are involved in any way in building up the community of faith here in our own parish, and in many parts of the world.
