You’re worth it

On the television programme ‘The Antiques Road Show’, the key question is always: ‘How much do you think it’s worth?’  Many of the items on display are precious, special and irreplaceable.

As children of God, we are of infinitely greater value!  ‘You  are worth more than hundreds of sparrows,’  Jesus reminds us.  Indeed, each of us alone would have been worth dying for on the cross!

The trouble is that our inhibitions, feelings of insecurity and inadequacy can prevent us from making a full commitment to the Lord.  Which is why the phrase ‘Do not be afraid’ is mentioned no less than three times by Jesus this Sunday!

True worth can never be killed.  (‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body.’)  That’s why Jeremiah could face the challenges and difficulties of his calling with such courage.  By enjoying an intense awareness of our unique worth before God we can stake our lives on Jesus and his message.

Maybe at times we don’t believe we are valued too much.  But remember, ‘Every hair on your head has been counted’.  So today, let that be God’s word to us all.  Because you’re worth it!
