Step into Faith
Buildings we understand, and there’s so much variety: the
igloos of the far north, stone houses of Ireland, reed huts of Africa, wooden
dwellings of so many places. House
building techniques vary from one culture and climate to another. Yet, for all the variety, there is a
common search for protection from the elements that threaten, whether they
are cold or heat, wind or water.
Perhaps you’re reading this in a building we call a
church. It may be a living monument
to the generosity of past generations.
It could be the place of your baptism, your first Communion, even your
wedding. It means a lot to you. Demolish it and what have you left when
you’ve lost everything? I hope the answer
is faith.
Otherwise we are like the monumental new library with
beautiful marble and ornate furnishing.
It drew everyone’s admiration.
Finally the librarian could stand it no longer and posted a sign in
front which read: “This is not the
library, the library is inside’.
A time comes to enter into our faith, into the heart of
God. When we claim Peter’s faith and
allow ourselves to see in Christ, the living God who cares and looks after
us. Then we, like he, receive the
power to bind and to loose, forgive and to curse.

Cox, Intercom.

Every parishioner at sometime or other has contributed to Apostolic
Work either by donations, raffles and flag days. By your prayers and donations you are of enormous support to
many a weary and hard working missionary in some lonely mission. In the words of the Holy Father in his
Encyclical letter Redemptoris Missio, “since they are all members of the
Church by virtue of their Baptism, all Christians share responsibility for
missionary activity.
Missionary co-operation is rooted and lived, above all, in personal
union with Christ”. (RM,77)
The ISPCC Castlebar are now recruiting
volunteers to assist with running their steps service. Steps is a drop in service providing
community based support, advice and counselling for young people. Volunteers are required to contribute a
minimum of four hours per week.
Comprehensive training will be provided. Those interested in attending an information evening should
contact Marianne Farr at 094-25254.
