Today’s Psalm

Psalm 26 is a beautiful prayer of trust in God.

Today’s gospel repeats Isaiah: The people that walked in darkness has seen a great light.  We recognise Jesus as the light who conquers darkness - spiritual, moral or emotional.

He is spiritual light in the word he preaches.  Moral light in the guidance of his teaching.  And the news of God’s love which he brings is the light which can lift the clouds of depression.   The Lord is my light and my help.

Walking in his light, we have no reason to fear.  He is our stronghold and protection.

Supported by this confidence the psalmist earnestly longs to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.  To serve the Lord in all things is sweet delight to the soul.  And our hearts are filled with hope of seeing the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

The Lord is my light and my help.
