These are times when every institution is held up to the light, with all its strengths and weaknesses.  And yet we all wear masks and hide behind facades.

In every human eye there is a point in the retina which is not sensitive to light - a ‘blind spot’, literally.  It’s more than a physical reality.  We all possess that unexplored area to which we ourselves are blind, which others may not perceive either.

Yet, Jesus could say to dumbstruck disciples.  ‘Handle me, and see’.  Can you honestly say that?  Do you dare let another close enough to see your strengths and weaknesses?

Often people label as ‘hypocrites’ those who attend church.  It’s a true if unfair statement.  All believers can say:

‘Look, I know I’m not the finished article as regards Christianity.  I struggle in raising children, I battle with my temper, I worry about my bills.  I certainly don’t always read and pray as I should.  But God has made a difference in my life, and what he’s done for me, he can do for you.’

We believe, even if we stumble and are all too hesitant - exactly like the disciples.

‘Lift up the light of your face on us, O Lord’ (Psalm) that we may reflect your glory to all.
