HUANCANÉ
Huancané is a town in Peru 12,500 feet
about sea level, one hours journey
from Puno and a few miles from Titicaca.
The town is about the same size as Castlebar. The area has one priest for 8
parishes. Sister Ann Marie Burke from
Aughadrina and two other Peruvian sisters are working with the Indian people
there. Their work is mostly to do
with evangelisation, training in literacy and craftwork and medical
care. Our parish here has a link with
the mission there and Frs. Paddy & Máirtín have visited the area and met
many people, the sisters and Padre Pedro the priest of the area. Our collection on the feast of the
Epiphany will go towards the work of the Mission in Huancané. Whatever is given will go direct to Sr.
Ann Marie. She hopes to be home in
the summer and she will speak to us then.
Castlebar
