Today’s Psalm            Psalm 125

Here is a psalm which obviously celebrates the release of the people from the bondage of forced exile in Babylon.  The psalmist attributes the good news to God:

What marvels the Lord worked for us.

The story of what God did in the past gives us hope in our troubles today.  Advent brings a spirituality of hope in the darkness of winter.  Preparing for the feast of incarnation reaffirms our belief in the coming of God.  Our Church may be experiencing a winter in the darkness of scandals, falling numbers and rampant licentiousness in society.  But we are a people of hope.

Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage as streams in dry land.

We keep on sowing the seed in the belief that it is God’s word.  And God’s word will prevail:

Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.

Come, Lord Jesus, come.  What marvels you worked in the past, do them again in our day.
