Today’s feast honours the “mother and head of all the Churches of the city of Rome and of the world”.  Originally dedicated to our Saviour Jesus, the celebration of the feast takes the place of the regular Sunday readings and prayers.  This feast is always celebrated on the 9th November.  “Without a vision the people perish” (Ecclesiastes).  The people who built the Lateran Basilica and our own Parish Churches were inspired by faith and the love of God.  The local Church is a special place that is specially sacred because it speaks of the presence of God in the midst of his people.  It is the place where we gather as a community to celebrate the Mass and where God is present as nowhere else.  Let us drop in for a prayer, a moment of silence, a break from the daily rush and come close to the God who loves us.

“God is for us a refuge and strength,

a helper close at hand, in time of distress:

so we shall not fear though the earth should rock,

though the mountains fall into the depths of the sea.”  (Today’s Psalm)

Tax Relief for Parish

The parish has recently received a cheque for €23,176.18 from the Revenue Commissioners.  This is made up of Tax Relief on contributions paid by parishioners to the parish fund and the priests’ collection.  Fr. Curran and the finance committee are most grateful to the people who completed the forms and returned them thus allowing us to claim the tax due.  Any P.A.Y.E. tax payer who has contributed €250 or more over the entire year qualifies for a tax rebate.  Forms are still available at the back of the Church for anyone interested.  Sincere thanks to all concerned.
