The obstacle posed by riches is that the thought, energy and effort given to accumulating and preserving wealth can be a distraction from making God’s Kingdom the focus of one’s life.  No one saw the danger of prosperity and material success as Jesus did, in that it tends to make a person arrogant, self-satisfied, unwilling to share and likely to forget that there are values beyond wealth.  Thus the shock of the request to give up all and rely on the greatest benefactor of all.

Jesus teaches that God is the only true possession: all else is insignificant.  So we are faced with a fundamental option: since it is only in God that we will find true happiness and peace, what are we to do with wealth and material success?

Consider the good that can be done with the gifts we have:

            *  Help and support people in their need

            *  Find ways to continue the work of Jesus

            *  Become stewards of God’s beneficence

            *  Learn to be generous and share unselfishly.

Reward is a great incentive to do good.  God promises to reward those who make a preferential option for the poor, in this life and the next.

R.C.I.A. Programme (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

A number of people from the diocese including three from this parish, have been trained in this programme.  It is for adults who are interested in becoming part of the Catholic community here, or for Catholics who have lost touch with the Church.  If anyone you know could be helped by this programme please contact the Presbytery during office hours.

Cantors at Mass

On the 11th, 18th and 25th November, the Tuam Archdiocese is running work-shops for cantors - leading the singing at Mass and on other occasions.  This is to provide training in this ministry.  We would be very grateful for people to go forward for this training as they are badly needed in all our Churches.  Anyone interested please contact the Presbytery during office hours.
