We may get tired or even burned out. Saying ‘Yes’ involves certain risk. It opens up to failure, to disappointment, to being hurt, ‘No’, on the other hand, is a safe bet. It is the response of the youth in us who, unmasked, is ‘an idealist who never wants to be disappointed again’. And yet all of us are searching for a deeper ‘Yes’, a more positive and affirmative response to life, to Jesus: a ‘Yes’ we’re fearful of making, yet longing to give; a ‘Yes’ that will call forth and release all that is good in the world and in ourselves - a constant and affirmative ‘Yes’ that lies at the heart of our Gospel-living.
