Rest in Peace

Lay Readers

It is your face, O Lord, that I seek; hide not your face.

The transfiguration gospel urges us to listen to the word of the Lord; and the psalm is set on seeking the his face.

To listen to the word and to see the face.

Lectio divina involves staying with the scriptural words until we can see how God, who spoke and acted in the past, is still speaking and acting in our own day. It is like the purifier of metal skimming off the impurities in the melting metal until the surface is sufficiently clear to see his face reflected, only in this case, it is God’s face which is reflected.

It sets us a positive challenge for Lent: to spent more time pondering the word: to let the sacred texts change my focus from the faults of others towards seeing how God is given a face in their graces and virtues.  That is how I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

It is your face, O Lord, that I seek, hide not your face.
