Master fishing

What made Simon overcome his hesitation and pay out the nets (again) at the say-so of a carpenter?  What was it about the person and personality of Jesus that lead him to drop more than his nets and follow him?  After Jesus had finished speaking, and while Simon made for deep water - what did they talk about?

Then the big catch.  As economic security flips and flops about his feet, Simon Peter next hears from Jesus the words that will truly transform his life.  It is a message that turns its back on the miracle of wealth that fills the boat.  It would be like clutching a major winning Lottery ticket and being asked to leave it behind.  Does this sound smart?  I mean, what happened the fish?  What would you do?  But still, it often seems  that the very moment we receive what we crave, we realise that they can never provide ultimate meaning.  A time when we grasp that our goals are too small compared to God’s call.

When you think you are beyond the sea

When you think nobody is listening

            When depression fills your heart

            When you feel defeated, alone

When you feel you do not have a solution

When you think the way is long.

He, Jesus is walking by your side,

in the very boat with you.   (Alma Leticia Rojas)
