What does it mean to turn to the Lord to receive his blessings?  We can only receive God’s blessings when we acknowledge our need of him, admit our hunger and thirst, and depend on him in trust and hope.

Then God will reach down to us to bless and reward us.  On the other hand, when we live independently of God, self-satisfied and not recognising our need but instead relying on our self-sufficiency then we will not be open to receive his blessings.

Jesus always knew his need of his Father.  In trust, hope, obedience and complete submission, he drew life from his Father: ‘I live because of the Father.’  In exactly the same way Jesus invites his  disciples to draw life from him; ‘he who eats me will live because of me’.  Recognise your dependence on God and your need of him.  Come to Jesus in your hunger and thirst and draw life from him.  These dispositions will open up God’s blessing to you.  Turn every day to the Lord and you will be blessed indeed!
