Peace to this house! What destroys peace at home? Drink, late hours, financial worries,
arguments, lack of appreciation, no communication, lack of prayer? What else? To build up peace, what might we do? To be more precise, how do we avail of the peace that flows
from God? There can be no world peace
without soul peace.
The Lord instructed the disciples not so much in what to say but in
how we live. ‘The first means of evangelisation is the witness
of an authentically Christian life.
People today listen more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and
if they do listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses’ (Paul VI).
‘What you are thunders so
loudly, I cannot hear what you are saying’ (Anon)
Paul boasted of what Jesus and his cross brought him. What is the source of my pride? My achievements, house, status, salary
etc.? Maybe it is pride drawn from
the success of the team I support. If
our boast is about what God has done, we will give witness to our faith by
the way we live.
