“They saw his glory”

The readings today suggest that we should share their discovery – that there was even more to mount Tabor than they had realised.  For not only had it given them a glimpse of who Jesus was but also of what we, his followers, are destined to be.  In the words of St. Paul, “the Lord Jesus will transfigure these wretched bodies of ours into copies of his glorious body”.  Some years ago a horrific explosion in Belfast robbed a young girl of an arm, a leg and an eye.  She made an amazing recovery, and was married a year later.  Many newspapers carried “before” and “after” photographs, showing the incredible transformation that had been worked, thanks to the skill of doctors and nurses.  What then may we not expect when the Lord himself is at work, for, as Paul reminds us, God has at his disposal limitless power, “the same power with which he can subdue the whole universe”.

As though reflecting on the import of what happened on mount Tabor, Paul cries out that “our (real) homeland is in heaven”; that’s where we truly belong for we are a pilgrim people, that’s where we shall finally be transfigured into the likeness of our risen Lord.  And that’s why our supreme task, especially during these days of Lent, is to ensure that we are treading the right path, or, if we are not, to make the necessary adjustments while there is time.

Castlebar Parish Visiting Teams

So far we have seven Visiting Teams (two in each team).  Between this and Easter they hope to visit the following estates:

Meadow Park, Aglish, Gladesville, The Brambles, Rockvale, Willow Grove, Davitt’s Grove, Rathbawn Grove, Rathbawn Avenue.  They will visit in the evenings.  We thank them for their generosity and commitment and we pray for the success of this new ministry in the Parish.

Station Neighbourhood Masses are now being held in different parts of the Parish.  Everyone is welcome to the Mass, not just a representative from each house.  So please remember the rule of tea and biscuits, it keeps everything simple and is no strain on anyone.  Those intending on hosting the Neighbourhood Mass, please give their names to their area priest.

FÁS are planning to run a 20 wk. part time return to work course in Castlebar. The course is for women who have been out of the work force for some time.  If you are interested, an information session & interview will be held on Mon. 12th, in Daly’s Hotel at 10a.m.
