Pain Problem

Things remain the same.  Pilate’s brutal act, and the fall of a tower reported to Jesus, show that neither man nor nature have ever been a respecter of persons, ranks or titles.

Just as today, whenever bad things happen, the human instinct is to try to grapple.  We all want to make sense of the senseless.  We want to know why certain things occur.  ‘Why?’ is a good question,  investigations can help prevent future tragedy.  ‘Why’ is only bad when it leads us into assigning blame and guilt to people that do not deserve it.  Or rather who do not merit it any more or less than we do.

Two questions about suffering, Jesus poses the more personal deeper question: the most urgent issue is your own soul.  Too many have an existence but not a life.  The fig tree of the Gospel gives us good news – God is merciful and forgiving.  The bad news: the clock is ticking and our time is limited.  Limited time to become a good spouse or parent. Limited time to be a good friend or grow into the people God always hoped we would be.  ‘Too late’ is a phrase etched with sadness and bitterness.

Creating Peace within & around us

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”.

Using the serenity prayer as a framework, this four session course will examine and explore ways we can recognise and overcome our negative emotions and behaviours.  It will help build more positive attitudes within us, thereby improving our ability to relate to others and to the larger world around us.    Dates: March 20th, 27th, April 3rd, 10th, 8p.m. – 10.30p.m.  Facilitator: Patricia McGuire, a counsellor with over 29 yrs. experience in educating people on how to transform their lives.
