Christian Inside and Out

Ireland is awash with tribunals, serving a valued purpose in bringing the light of truth to situations. The danger is that we're getting better at recognising public sin and not seeing the defects in our own lives.

So, just suppose a church tribunal was established to investigate - you! The charge; trying to close the Church. The defending counsel skilfully paints a picture of you as a good person: law-abiding, temperate, truthful, a morally good man/woman. You paid your income tax and bills, came to church. You never opposed anything that was good.

The presiding judge at the conclusion of statements and evidence asks you; 'Are you guilty or not guilty of trying to close the Church?. 'Not guilty,' you plead. I didn't do a thing!!'

'Guilty as charged,' the judge rules. He adds, 'you have confessed to the most effective way of closing the Church. You didn't do a thing. You didn't visit the sick, encourage the weak, feed the hungry, welcome the stranger. You didn't reach out anyone with the Gospel.'

Perhaps it's because the possibilities for service demand too much from our resources.

Unless you eat you will not have life in you.

Fr. Tom Cox.

Peace

Peace is so very precious, but it begins in the human heart. I speak of that inner peace which is the right ordering of our lives. It comes when we want what is right, and strive to achieve what is good. It is the wanting and the striving that are important. It is the constant attempt to open up our lives to God, and when he invades the human heart, he establishes peace within his newly won kingdom

THANKSGIVING

O Jesus, I thank you for coming to me in this Holy Communion.

Thank You for the faith by which I believe in You, for the hope by which I trust in You, and for the love You have shown me .

Here I also thank You for so many things that brighten up our lives, music and song, sunshine and laughter, friendship and love; all these are your gifts. Thank You for pain and sickness, sorrow and disappointment, unpleasant work and difficult people. Make us patient and forgiving at all times.

Thank You, Lord, for waiting for us so many times, - when we stayed away from the Eucharist, when we fell out with people, when trouble and failure made us give up prayer.

Vacancy exists for caretaker in Breaffy Community Centre, under F.A.S. scheme.

Contact 094 - 21386.
