A Day for Life

Last Sunday, October 14th was designated a national day for life by the Irish hierarchy.  The immediate debate that comes to mind when we mention a day for life is debate about abortion.  However, there are many other life issues pertinent to our society at this time.  Discussions about life issues need to be broadened beyond any single issue.  Among these other areas of concern are; the alarming growth in the number of murders committed in our country, the increasing violence (sometimes fatal) in our towns and cities, the growing number of road traffic accidents, and the number of people in our country who choose to take their own lives.  The commandment not to take life is central to all these discussions also.  The primary purpose of this day for life is to “foster in individual consciences, in families, in the Church and in civil society, a recognition of the meaning and the value of human life at every stage and in every condition.”  John Paul II Evangelium Vitae #85.

NOTICES

Mission Sunday

Today Sunday 21st Oct. is Mission Sunday.

“Mission Sunday is important in the life of the Church.  Mission cannot be left to a group of ‘specialists’.  It is a matter for all Christians, dioceses, parishes, Church institutions and associations… to pray for and encourage offerings for the missions”.    (Pope John Paul II)

In-Service Course for priests

The priests of the parish will be away on an In-Service Course this week.  Please remember them in your prayers.

Station Neighbourhood Masses are now being held in different parts of the Parish.  Everyone is welcome to the Mass, not just a representative from each house.  So please remember the rule of tea and biscuits, it keeps everything simple and is no strain on anyone.  Those intending on hosting the Neighbourhood Mass, please give their names to their area priest.

Floodlighting of Church

We are very grateful to the Urban Council for the floodlight of the Church of the Holy Rosary for the centenary.  They have made provision for the costs of the floodlighting in their estimates and we thank the councillors who voted in favour of this motion.  The Church really looks well when lit up at night.  Go raibh míle maith agaibh.
