Castlebar Centenary Novena

Our centenary Novena conducted by the Redemptorist priests from Esker is beginning next Saturday morning at 7a.m.  Please note times of services: 7a.m., 9a.m., 7p.m. and 9p.m.

The Novena is to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the Church of our Lady of the Holy Rosary on the 7th October 1901.  As you know the stonework of the Church has been cleaned recently and will be floodlit for the Novena.  We are hoping that a mosaic of Our Lady over the front door of the Church will be complete before the centenary.  It is being done by Walter Michel who has done a lot of work in Churches.

The book on the history of the parish by Tom Higgins is being launched on Wednesday the 3rd October in the Welcome Inn by Archbishop Michael Neary.  The book is very interesting, runs to about 220 pages and contains many old photographs.  The book will be on sale on the night of the launch.

On the day of the centenary itself (7th October), the Novena will end with a special Mass of thanksgiving at 6p.m. The priests who worked here over the years will be invited back.  Afterwards we will go to the Travellers Friend Hotel for refreshments,  music and celebration.

Above all this is a time for us to give thanks to God for the past, the present and also to look forward to the future and its challenges.

Sung Mass for Church Centenary

Those of you who regularly attend 11.15a.m. Mass on Sundays are familiar with much of the music sung by the Parish Choir.  Some time ago, organist Margo Lombard, composed a Holy Holy and Memorial Acclamation which is regularly sung by the choir during this Mass.

Now, Margo has completed the music for all the Mass proper e.g. Gloria and Lamb of God.  This music has been published by the Srs. of Mercy and dedicated to the centenary celebrations of this Church.  We congratulate Margo on the completion and publication of this delightful music.  The Parish Choir look forward to singing the completed work.
