Lord to Whom Shall We Go?

"Lord to whom shall we go? You have the message of eternal life".

In the first reading today Joshua challenged the people of Israel to make a choice - to serve the Lord who brought them out of the slavery of Egypt or to serve other gods. Joshua says, "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord". In the gospel some of the followers of Jesus leave him because they cannot accept his teaching on the bread of life. Jesus turns to the apostles and challenges them. "Will you also go away". Peter answers for them. " Lord to whom shall we go? You have the message of eternal life".

Today in Ireland we are challenged in following the gospel of Jesus. To be honest, and truthful, to worship God in the Mass, to care for others, to strive for a just and fair society. These and other aspects of the gospel are not easy to live out in today's society. There is such an emphases on money, on individual success, on individual freedom, on work and success, that other values can be pushed out. Yet the teachings of Jesus is our guiding light, to keep a sense of God and the spiritual in our lives, to make some sense of life in a rapidly changing and confused world. Amidst all the rush and hurry, the Lord will grant us peace of mind and a true sense of meaning and purpose in life if we remain with Him.

A little Remedy

I've found a little remedy
To ease the life we live
And make each day a happier one. It is the word "forgive"

So often little things come up
That leave a pain and sting
That covered up at once would not amount to anything.

'Tis when we hold them up to view
and brood and sulk and fret,
They greater grow before our eyes;
"Twere better to forget'.

Exhibition

The Annual Apostolic work Exhibition & Sale of Work takes place in the Parish Centre, on 2nd. & 3rd. September. Every parishioner at sometime or other has contributed to apostolic work either by donations, raffles and flag days. By your prayers and donations you are of enormous support to many a weary and hard working Missionary in some lonely mission. In the words of the Holy Father in his Encyclical letter Redemptoris Missio "Since they are all members of the Church by virtue of their Baptism, all Christians share responsibility for missionary activity.

Missionary co-operation is rooted and lived, above all, in personal union with Christ".
(RM, 77)
