STATEMENT FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE

When the annual accounts were published and presented last June, the major capital undertaking then was the refurbishment of the Monastery.  The exterior work (chimneys, roof, stonework, windows, pillars) is now complete at a cost of £142,000.  The interior work has now gone to tender and we hope the task will be complete by mid 2002.  Because of the nature of the building and its listed status, the cost of the internal work is bound to be substantial.

Since June you have responded generously to our appeal for increases in the weekly Sunday collection for the parish.  We asked then of those who could afford it, a minimum envelope offering of £3 or 4 euros from the 1st of January.  Many people give a lot more each week.  We are very grateful for your generosity and continued support for the weekly collection.  As you are well aware the euro will be worth only 79p in our present currency, so do make allowances for that in your offering.

We would also like to express our thanks and appreciation to those who contributed to the Parish Loan Scheme now standing at £51,000.  This has been a great help.  Loans of £50 upwards repayable on demand are always welcome.  As well as the capital programme in hand, we have to look to the future and hopefully to build up a fund for the training and employment of some lay people in the Parish.  As the Parish continues to grow and with fewer priests available this will be a very necessary development for the future.

So much has been achieved over the years.  The good work continues.  We can look forward to the future with hope and confidence.  Our thanks and appreciation to you all.
