Newport on 16 May 2001

The Pioneer visited Newport, Co. Mayo on 16 May 2001 and took a few pics with a watery theme.

A commemorative anchor...

The Newport River was low following the dry spell exposing its sandy bed beneath the viaduct.

By chance the man from the EPA was taking a water sample at the road bridge. All the major rivers are surveyed regularly for pollution - even clean rivers like the Newport.
