Port, Donegal

Late last year we visited what is probably one of the most spectacular places in Ireland: Port, Co. Donegal. This is a deserted catchment with an all but abandoned port on the sea with a spectacular view out across the Atlantic. It's hard work getting there, but the views are worth it. The photographs say it all.

At the top of the valley is a narrow glacial lake.

The only inhabitants are sheep - not even a tree grows.

Rounding a corner you see the harbour in the distance.

The Atlantic waves crash across the rocks.

Sun and surf

The view from the end of the road at Port. Next stop USA.
