Rock Square Castlebar

Rock Square adjoins The Mall in the centre of Castlebar.
(As usual you can click on any of the photos for an enlargement.)

The 'Muriel'!

Take a moment the next time you pass to appreciate the leafy view across to Christ Church on the opposite side of the Mall.

The Christian Fellowship Church was originally built as a methodist church under the patronage of the Lord Lucan of the time. The foundation stone was laid by John Wesley on a visit to Castlebar in 1785.

Just around the corner, one of the plaques on Daly's wall in memory of Fr. Conroy, hanged on The Mall.

General Humbert of 1798 fame, with his troops behind him, graces the wall at the corner of Rock Square. Humbert ousted the previous occupant of this spot: Louis Brennan another military-minded individual.
