Windmill Lane - Construction of the Burren Windmills above Castlebar

The turbines and blades were hoisted to the top of the five towers on 20 and 21 August 2000 using a 60 tonne crane.

Getting the crane up and down was a major operation requiring a specially constructed road.

Tilting at windmills indeed!



The van beneath gives an idea of the scale - each blade is 15m long.
