Tilting at Windmills at Castlebar's new Wind Farm at Burren

After a mile and a half of uphill walking we got there. They are impressively big!

Castlebar looks quite distant from up here. Unfortunately it turned a bit misty.

The blades have yet to be lifted atop the towers using a big crane.

The system will be controlled remotely when operational.

The windfarm will produce enough electricity for 400 to 500 houses.

On balance the windfarm will reduce our Carbon Dioxide outputs and help prevent global warming.

Each blade is about 15 metres long.

Martin Crean is, however, worried about visitors coming to the site due to insurance problems.

The scale is enormous.
