Cool places to be during the dog days of summer. Alexandria,VA.
In 1669, Scotsman John Alexander purchased the land of present day Alexandria from an English ship captain for six thousand pounds of Tobacco and Cask. The town was established in 1748. Not very old by Irish standards but historic nonetheless.
It's a great town to walk around in but I was always on the lookout for some cool spots. Hanging out with the birds on the Potomac River. Under the trees in a tiny park in the middle of town. By the flowers and the water fountain. Roll on Autumn!

King Street has great shops and restaurants. Prince Street lined with cobblestones, much of which arrived as ballast rock to balance loads aboard early sailing ships. Carlyle House built in 1753 by wealthy Scottish Merchant and city founder John Carlyle. Christ Church, built in 1773. George Washington and Robert. E. Lee were members of the congregation.
