The unique tractor drive fund-raiser for the hospice movement is called 'Tom's Fund' and is named after Tom Ballance - Hednesford (Staffordshire) Steam Buff who restored the tractor has recently passed away in St Giles Hospice in Whittington, Lichfield. Tom restored some 147 items during his lifetime in the steam business, including work on the Indian railways. Tom, who spent 2 years as a prisoner of war in Burma, was also a tireless worker on behalf of the County Air Ambulance and organised many fund raising events.
It is as a tribute to this remarkable character that this fund bears his name.
