Possible reasons that spring to mind Mrsk for the build up of weeds in the lake:
(a) Shallowness of the lake - weeds dont grow in deep water.
(b) Build up of fertiliser in the water. And here I might mention the agricultural and forestry industries.
I believe Coillte used to use great quantities of fertiliser in their forestry programmes in recent times (I dont know if they still do) and,of course, the agricultural industry uses vast amounts of fertiliser much of which finds its way into our waterways.
I had better not say too much about the latter source as I've noticed that anybody who criticises the agricultural industry is regarded in some quarters as being traitorous.
